What are the different stackers available and what are they used for?

Counterbalance Stackers

The counterbalance stacker functions by counterbalancing the weight of the load on the forks with a weight made by cast iron and/or the battery at the back of the unit. A good option for wanting to lift higher capacity loads and lift heights. Unfortunately, being a ‘counterbalance’ they’re a larger unit and not an ideal option for a workplace with minimal space.

Platform Stackers

The platform stacker is a great companion in a workplace that requires heavy lifting and manual labour. It can help aid the operator in lifting loads over the recommended weight limit, potentially saving strain or permanent damage. According to the HSE guidelines, a male worker should be lifting no more than 25kg and a female worker 16kg… A platform stacker can have capacities of 100kg + so staff can use it for holding loads that are 4x their recommended weight limit! They undoubtedly help with the productivity and prevention of injury in the workplace.

Mini-Lifter Stackers

Mini-lifters are designed for ultimate flexibility and are able to carry out a huge range of functions in production, warehousing and office environments. They have low capacity’s but a huge range of attachments. These attachments come with different functions that can be easily and quickly changed with simple tools. They come in both manual and electric drive options that to help the productivity of the staff and operators in the previously listed departments.

Manual Pedestrian Stackers

Completely manual stackers require the full human ability to manoeuvre the stacker and it’s load, as well as manually pumping to lift the forks. The process can be strenuous to the operator if used regularly, so they’re usually bought for places that don’t require a stacker on a regular basis.

Fully Powered Stackers

When the machine is ‘fully’ powered, both the lift and drive are powered by the battery in the machine. Therefore, it reduces fatigue and risk to health for the operator but has a higher cost price and requires more maintenance. Usually used by busy depots that have longer distances to travel with loads and require a higher capacity! They’re also the perfect tool for getting into places that a forklift truck can’t.

Semi-Powered Stackers

‘Semi’ powered machines are often found to have power for the lifting but not the drive. Therefore, the machines can be provided much cheaper whilst maintaining an increase for productivity. Similar to the manual stacker, these are usually bought for places where the goods don’t have to travel far but do require a higher capacity and turnover time.
