Should You Invest In New Equipment?

However, what do you do when your contract comes to an end? Or have you had the truck on site for a number of years? Should you invest in new equipment!?

The first question you need to ask is ‘How has your company changed since you first had the truck(s)?’ and then ‘How is the company going to change in the future?’. As businesses grow and develop, their principles and requirements change. You may have more space for storing products, more deliveries going out and coming in, another depot in another location etc… All of these are things to consider when looking at investing in new equipment. We recommend that you look at your long term goals and review the benefits of technological advances that we’re lucky enough to have available.

Here’s some food for thought! The forklift industry is adapting like every other and we’ve had some major advances in the battery technology for forklift trucks. Yes, they cost more initially but your return on investment can be increased through lowered electricity costs. Companies are now thinking consciously for the health and well being of their staff and the planet. Diesel and Gas trucks are making their way out, and this could potentially be the forward thinking change you can make to your company. The convenience of an electric is unparalleled – there’s no filling up of diesel or waiting for your tanks to be refilled; you dont have to store lots of gas bottles and have deliveries/collections all the time… You just simply put on charge over night and use during the day.

That being said, if you’re working predominately outside you’ll need to keep a diesel or a gas. That doesn’t mean to say you have no options for upgrades! Like car manufacturers, forklift truck models are improving all the time. They listen to the markets needs and requirements and change their trucks to suit the people that actually use them every day. Design improvements optimise the productivity of the operator – the easier the truck is to use and manoeuvre, the easier it is to do the job and reducing the risk of damage or injury.

So if you’ve come to the end of your long-term lease or you’ve just had the truck on site for some time now, its probably worth a think about progressing your materials handling equipment to keep up with your growing business.
